An intelligent family of compact and centralised support structures which achieve enhanced functional efficiency and elegant aesthetics. Two key problems exist with the visual appearance of current overhead line structures, firstly discordant and interfering patterns that emerge when parallel rows of masts are seen in long views and, secondly, the prominence of the tall and industrial looking structural elements at the edge of the track.
This design makes the decision to centralise the mast which directly addresses these two issues and gives rise to opportunities to further extend the aesthetic appeal not previously possible with existing UK track configurations. The Y-shaped mast naturally lends itself to a lightweight and dynamic form, enhanced by tapering sections, articulated joints and a possible use of colour.
