Whilst designers are ever keen to create connections to and from a site to boost commerce. The proposed residential and elderly residential use, coupled with ‘backlands’ character, leads us see the potential of the site as a series of small public and semi-public spaces which pedestrians might discover and move through as an alternative, and perhaps more pleasant route from Midworth St, to the small square/car park behind the Swan public house, continuing onto the square at Queens Walk, before finally reaching the adjacent Market Place.

We are creating a new vibrant neighbourhood consisting of 45 new residential units, some with communal facilities, a Community Hub and two retail or live/ work units which capitalises on its unique location in Mansfield’s town centre and adjacent the impressive Victorian viaduct. We recognise the opportunities created by this heritage asset and its context, both of which will offer a sense of place and identity to the new development.

Developing on our analysis of the historic grain of the town and in particular the unique 'Mansfield Court' typology we are proposing to enrich the site with a series of new small scaled pedestrian courts. The courts are formed between the retained existing buildings and new housing blocks and link together to allow permeability across the entire site.

It aims to establish Mansfield's new vibrant and inclusive residential quarter, fostering interaction between generations and promoting social connections among residents and with the greater Mansfield Town community.
